JULY
“Nature Haiku Walk”
Monday, July 15, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Meet at Shelter #1 in Stainbrook Park. If RAIN – IN SHELTER #1. IF THUNDERSTORM – IN Nature Center! No cancellation.
A quick introduction to creating nature Haiku will be followed by a “Ginko Walk” where we will find inspiration to jot down some quick and fun Haiku’s of our own! A great chance to just get outside and enjoy!
“Planting Native Species for Birds”
Wednesday, July 24, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Meet at Shelter #2 in Stainbrook Park.
Find out how to plant natives to attract the birds! Penn State Extension Master Watershed Steward Kathy Allio will join us to present on this fascinating topic!
“Butterflies!”
Tuesday, July 30, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Meet at Shelter #1 in Stainbrook Park.
Join Environmental Education Specialist Kathy Uglow to learn about butterflies and then go scouting for them!
AUGUST
“Conifer Needle TEA PARTY”
Wednesday, August 7, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Meet at Shelter #1 in Stainbrook Park.
Did you know you can brew tea from conifer needles? What will be your favorite…spruce? pine? Come to this program and find out how…taste a “flight” of teas that we brew during this event! DCNR Service Forester Mark Lewis will explain how to make the tea and he will teach about conifers.
“What’s the Buzz about Mosquitoes?”
Thursday, August 15, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Meet at Shelter #1 in Stainbrook Park.
NW PA Mosquito Coordinator Zoe Heckathorn will talk about how mosquitoes are monitored, trapped, sprayed, etc. Find out the latest scoop about mosquitoes in our county.
“Basic Compass”
Monday, August 19, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Meet at Shelter #2 in Stainbrook Park.
Join District Watershed Specialist Brian Pilarcik and Environmental Educator Kathy Uglow to learn the basics of using a compass. You will find out how to get your “pace count,” then try out your new skills by doing hands-on activities. Materials and compasses will be provided for the program.
“Bird Walks (2!)”
Tuesday, August 27. One walk at 3:00 p.m. and one at 4:30 p.m. (Rain Date is Wednesday, August 28)
